I grew up around books and cannot remember a time when I couldn’t read. I could not see to read and because I couldn’t read, I couldn’t breathe. I think I was at my lowest ebb when I forced myself to my first Anti-Poverty Network South Australia conference. I went on a percentage calculator and I couldn’t work it out so it deferred to 0.0% – I cracked up laughing. The utilisation of and extension of that gift – the confidence it takes to put yourself out there – that is because of the Anti-Poverty Network.
